Wellspring recruiting foster parents in Traverse City

foster-parent-pull-up-bannerFLINT, MICH., March 16, 2015 — Each day in Michigan, 58 new children enter the foster care system. Each one is in need of a nurturing and safe home. That's why Wellspring Lutheran Services is asking adults to "answer that little voice that's calling you." The nonprofit organization is now recruiting foster parents in and around the Traverse City area.

Taking the first step to becoming a foster parent can come with a lot of questions. Wellspring Lutheran Services is inviting anyone who is interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent to a Foster Parent Orientation on Wednesday, March 18, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at 955 E. Commerce Dr. in Traverse City. Attendees will learn about the steps necessary to become a licensed foster parent and be able to ask questions.

"You couldn't imagine how much joy it actually gives you until you start doing it," says Paul Downey, a Wellspring foster parent from Gaylord.

"We look forward to serving and partnering with the Traverse City community, and are so excited to expand our work with children and families in the area," says Sonia Noorman, Wellspring's foster care division director. "Wellspring has a long and rich history of providing foster care services throughout Michigan and we strive to provide excellent customer service to our foster parents, children and their parents."

Wellspring has been serving families in the Traverse City area since 1992 through its Families First Program and Family Support Programs, which focus on preventing separation of child and family. Serving over 200 families each year, the Traverse City office is comprised of 16 staff members. The newest member of the team is Darci Munger. Munger joins Wellspring as the new foster care supervisor. Previously, she worked with the Benzie/Manistee County Department of Human Services.

Wellspring Lutheran Services has been serving children, families and seniors in Michigan for more than 120 years, and has locations in more than 30 cities across the state. Through its mission, "Motivated by Christ's love, we engage people as they experience and embrace their God-given potential," Wellspring Lutheran Services will come alongside people with the services and tools they need to help them envision a brighter future.

Aside from foster care and family preservation services, Wellspring also serves Michigan children, families and seniors with the following services:
• Adoption Resources
• Affordable Housing
• Geriatric Care Management
• Home Care
• Hospice & Grief Support
• Independent & Assisted Living
